Director of Communications and Development

PEDS is a nonprofit organization dedicated to making streets and communities in Georgia safe, inviting and accessible to everyone who walks. We work closely with government agencies, residents, and business, neighborhood, and community organizations. We provide programs in metro Atlanta, as well as workshops and services benefiting people throughout Georgia.

PEDS seeks an accomplished Director of Communications and Development, who will work closely with the CEO and others to develop and implement annual communications and fundraising plans that raise awareness of PEDS, increase member engagement, promote walk-friendly change and increase financial support for our programs. REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s degree or Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) accreditation preferred
  • Must live in the Atlanta region and have a passion for PEDS’ mission
  • At least 3 years of experience in non-profit communications and development, including website content, press releases, social media, donor communications and fundraising

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to translate technical information into lay language, transform knowledge into exciting and useful messages and disseminate messages to various audiences through the best distribution channels
  • Strong development experience, with proven success securing and managing foundation grants, individual donations and corporate sponsorships
  • Experience in online fundraising and storytelling
  • Team player who is responsive to direction and feedback and committed to working collaboratively with all constituent groups
  • Self-starter, who is able to work independently and enjoys creating and implementing new initiatives
  • Ability to speak Spanish a plus

RESPONSIBILITIES: COMMUNICATIONS

  • Develop and implement, in collaboration with the CEO, an annual communications plan that includes website, newsletters, social media, events, press releases, Annual Report and branding
  • Generate online content, including social media, website, e-newsletters and blogs, that engages various audiences, creates momentum and leads to measurable action
  • Manage the development and distribution of printed materials, including brochures and event materials
  • Work with staff to develop and implement strategies to improve positive awareness of PEDS and the issues it addresses
  • Manage media contacts and relationships
  • Track and measure public engagement

RESPONSIBILITIES: DEVELOPMENT

  • Develop and help implement annual fundraising plan, in collaboration with the CEO, with targeted fundraising goals, objectives, strategies, timelines and quantifiable outcomes
  • Research foundations and corporations and write grant and sponsorship proposals
  • In conjunction with the CEO, help build relationships with civic organizations, foundations and corporate sponsors
  • Develop and implement online fundraising strategies, campaigns and calls to action
  • Identify and develop relationships with potential major donors
  • Produce and distribute materials that grow donor base and increase contribution levels, including direct mail and online appeals
  • Measure the strength of donor relationships and online and direct mail fundraising

This is a full-time, salaried position and compensation is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
