August 11, 2009 at 11:11am by PEDS ·Great news! DeKalb County plans to install 4 HAWK Signals (High-intensity Activated crossWalk signals) in the Chamblee area of Buford Highway. These are the pedestrian-activated red lights PEDS has been recommending since 2005. The HAWK signals will replace the totally useless flashing yellow crosswalk lights that have been confusing drivers and pedestrians alike. This video from Kansas shows how HAWK signals work:
